Mima Solar Valley

A hometown power plant. An initiative towards “citizen funding”.
This power plant was a project filled with idealism, being built at the start of the mega-solar boom, and the first power plant that Gaia Power worked on.
It became our model project, combining regional revitalization and natural-resource energy, a real-life manifestation of our corporate philosophy.

In a region with accelerating population decline and depopulation, a study group was launched with the desire of utilizing promotion of regional development for its autonomous decentralized model and appealing price.
While constructing a power plant on a citizen participation model is a business model that approaches the ideologies of decentralization of power and regional regeneration, it was a hard task to align the views of all the parties involved.
Furthermore, as it was necessary to discuss finance too, the project progressed with a focus on two aspects: the ideal, and the business reality.

Eventually, funds were collected locally, and together with regional financial institutions and enterprises, the involved institutions came together under the idea of circulating money within the local area.
And so, a site that had been abandoned until then as wasteland was reborn as a power plant, revitalizing the region.
